LKA Q + A with Stefani Burr

Making spirits brighter over here at LKA we are SO thrilled for our next Mom Feature with our very own Graphic Designer and manager of all things web related - Stefani Burr (@stefaniburr). Stefani is our only employee at LKA Clothing and we just love working with her so much we wanted to share a little bit more about this  Boss Mama behind the scenes.
She is a mama of two girls, lover of wine, travel, and if you haven’t seen tidbits of her and her husband’s home improvement projects already then you are seriously missing out! We caught up with Stefani and asked her a few questions about life as a working mom and a few hacks for surviving the pandemic with two kids at home!
What is your and your kids’ day to day style?
COMFY is the theme of my wardrobe these days. Lululemon has my heart! I am a Peleton fanatic so I like to be able to hop on my bike whenever I have a break in the day, and minimizing the amount of laundry I have to do is key.

For my kids I would say comfy and stylish as well. Mila (my three year old) lives in her Princess Anna costume and Elle (my two year old) gets anything she wears dirty so we are a multiple outfit a day kind of household.

 What is your favourite hobby?

My home! My husband Sean and I bought our fixer upper home in Walnut Grove about 5 years ago and have chipped away at home renovations over the years. We recently sold and are onto our next adventure with lots of fun projects up our sleeves! I can’t get enough and I am inspired by anything Magnolia (Joanna Gaines).

What is your favourite place to travel to?

I grew up on the ocean – my parents have a summer home on the Sunshine coast so I always feel happiest near the sea. I am thankful we were able to visit there this past summer it gave me my ocean fix since we weren’t able to travel to our favourite place – Maui!
If I were to hop on a plane tomorrow I would be headed for Maui, no questions asked! I miss it so much!

What is the hardest thing about being a stay at home working mom?

I changed up the wording of this question to “stay at home WORKING mom” because that’s really what it is, after we had Ellie I decided not to go back to my usual job in order to care for the kids while my husband could take a career jump, but my creative juices needed to be filled which is why I started up my own side business in graphic design. Sasha (LKA Clothing) was my very first client! I am so grateful for our friendship that has led to an awesome little business partnership as well.
The hardest thing about working at home with two kids is finding the time, especially uninterrupted time to get my work done. I have become extremely efficient during nap times and after the kids go to bed I turn on my favourite Spotify playlist and pour myself a nice glass of cab sav to get sh*t done! I am thankful I get to do what I love to do and be home with my kids. It has its challenges but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Favourite quarantine activities for the kids?
I am seriously guilty of being REALLY good at the Pinterest activities at the beginning of the pandemic in march, we had sensory bins, arts and crafts, outdoor time…you name it we did it! I think now that things are getting to be a little bit stale I find it harder to come up with ideas but we are making the best of it. The best investment I made was the IKEA Flisat children’s table that I use for sensory bins as well as an art table.

My kids’ ultimate favourite thing to do is anything bath related. I recently discovered “popsicle baths” where you literally just give your kids a popsicle while they’re in the bath…brilliant! No mess and it’s a great bribery tool for good behaviour before bedtime ;)

Favourite thing about your spouse?

Sean and I met in 2012 while we were working for the same company – I love so many things about him but one of the biggest qualities I noticed in him right away and continue to see in him is his passion for his job. He manages large industrial construction sites in the Lower Mainland, and his ability to lead and manage personnel is so inspiring. Another thing is his willingness for adventure! We both love to travel and he even converted me into a camper! I never got along with the great outdoors but he convinced me to give it more than one shot and here we are! We purchased a family travel trailer last summer and adventured all around BC with our kids and it turned out to be an epic summer despite the covid-19 restrictions.

Favourite binge-worthy show

My husband and I are onto Outlander right now, it took me about 3 episodes to get into it but um, Jamie Fraser is all I will say *heart eyes

Another show we have binge watched multiple times is Sons of Anarchy, Jax Teller (drool!)

I see a theme here ;)

 Favourite season

Summer. Hands down. Weekend trips to the coast, backyard hangouts, bbq, patio drinks, WINE! There is so much to love about summer. I miss it already!

What are some of your favourite local brands/shops:

In no particular order:

Honeysuckle swim company (best sun suits for kids, and the owner is super lovely!)
LKA Clothing
Haven Kitchen + Bar (best place for a date night in our area!)
Megan DiCastri Photo (@megandicastriphoto great local family photographer, she’s the real deal!)
Aron Bordt Photograhy (@aronbordt we recently had family photos done by Aron and she is such a wizard! I am in love with her vintage style!)

Stefani is wearing our Primrose Dress

Favourite recipe for the whole family:

I am in love with easy dinners, and sheet pan dinners are just that. My husband and I love a good fresh squeezed lime margarita and what goes better with a margarita than Fajitas! This sheet pan Fajita meal is so easy and such a crowd pleaser. Be sure to use Casa Mendosa tortillas and we often substitute chicken thighs for chicken breast.
Also, Half Baked Harvest is one of my favourite Instagram accounts to follow. Her recipes are always such a hit!
